Bristol’s very own poetry revue invites the region’s wordsmiths to perform in our quirky cocktail bar.

This month, we welcome Bearing Witness.

Bearing Witness is a poetry and music show comprising:

Ananda (Stephen Parr) –has been writing poetry for more than 40 years, and has published two collections as well as 18 pamphlets. ‘Ananda’s poetry is spare, supple, questioning’ – ‘the beauty to be found in the simplest and most direct of words’.

Red Deer Sleeping (Mog Fry and Simon West) – play elemental nature-inspired songs on ukulele and cuatro, based on poems by the imagist poets of the early C20th – including Amy Lowell, D.H. Lawrence and T.E. Hulme – and Victorian and Romantic poets such as A.E. Housman and Christina Rossetti.

Gillie Harries– is an engaging poet/performer, published both here and in Australia – has been Poet in the Pool at Bristol Lido, and is working towards publication of her first collection. ‘Fine poetry delivered with great sensitivity and clarity’.

David Punter – is a well-known Bristol writer, winner of various prizes, and author of The Bristol Sonnets and 5 volumes of poetry. ‘These poems remain in the mind, and in the feelings; an extraordinary emotional repertoire’ – ‘a remarkable range, from the richly comic to the eerily haunting’.
