About the Artist

Kamola Zakirova is an artist with a background in design, living and working in Bristol.

Art has always been an important part of Kamola’s life, although becoming an artist was never something she had anticipated. Her practice has evolved through periods of painting, stepping away from it, and returning again, until the urge to create and express herself ultimately became impossible to ignore.

Kamola takes an intuitive approach to painting, using colour and shape to explore emotional and perceptual states. Working primarily in abstraction, she creates layered compositions that move between spontaneity and control, allowing forms to emerge and evolve throughout the process.

Her paintings explore memories, moods and emotions, inviting open-ended interpretation and quiet reflection.

Her solo exhibition, Back into Colour, brings together a selection of paintings created at different points in her practice, including earlier works alongside pieces made following a recent two-year hiatus. Despite their different origins, the works are united by Kamola’s love of colour, texture and the process of painting itself.
