With live music and poetry from some fantastic talent from the South West, it’s shaping up to be a must-see event on the Music and Poetry calendar.

Each performer will provide 10 to 12 minutes of their latest work.

Arrive at The Square Club for 19:30 for the event starting at 20:00. Drinks are available all evening from our lower deck cocktail bar.

General tickets are £5, and this is to be paid on the door in cash.

Poetry from Beatrice Anomah, Edson Burton and Jet McDonald, with live music from Avellana.

Beatrice Anomah is the founder of Radically Rooted and Rooted Spaces, organisations creating equitable, justice-led spaces for Black communities through culture, poetry, music and community. A worship leader and advocate for racial equity, decoloniality and climate justice, her work centres Black storytelling, systemic change and collective joy.

Award-winning writer and poet Edson Burton won the 2025 Tinniswood Prize for Man Friday, his adaptation of Robinson Crusoe. His work spans audio drama, theatre and poetry, including the acclaimed BBC Radio 4 series Deacon, the live productions Duppy Hunter and Destination Old Market, and the poetry collections Seasoned and Witness.

Jet McDonald is a writer, musician and psychiatrist whose work has been recognised by the Missouri Review and Shooter flash fiction prizes. His poetry has appeared in publications including The Frogmore Papers, Dreamcatcher, Broken Spine and Jawbone.

Avellana is a jazz trio featuring Simon Greening on saxophone, Paul Mahon on guitar and Glyn Owen on percussion. Known for blending contemporary, classical and jazz influences, the trio creates rich, intimate performances rooted in the Bristol jazz scene.
